Arvada, Colorado
Arvada is located in the north-central part and is the seventh largest city in the U.S. State of Colorado. The city is a suburb of Denver, located primarily in Jefferson County but with a smaller eastern portion in Adams County.
The city has the historic Olde Town district, which features restaurants, boutiques, and breweries. It has a rich history as the site of Colorado's first gold discovery.

History Of Arvada - Timeline
Thousands of years ago, the land was home to ancient Folsom people. Not long before the first Europeans came to the area, the land was used by Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute tribes. In 1700, French trappers hunted for beaver and traded fur in the area.
In 1850, prospector Lewis Ralston discovered gold near present-day Arvada. It sparked the Colorado Gold Rush. In 1858, as a guide for gold seekers, Lewis Ralston led a party back to the area to search for gold. In 1859, a log cabin was built by gold prospectors.
In 1863, Benjamin F. Wadsworth purchased a 160-acre land claim and built a log cabin. In 1864, Wadsworth began digging an irrigation ditch. In 1865, Wadsworth settled in the Ralston Point area (later Arvada). William Graves established a blacksmith shop and a threshing business.
In 1869, Wadsworth built a brick residence and he and his wife, Mary Ann Wadsworth, family settled permanently. George and Sarah Church established the Churches Ranch. The Churches were pioneering farmers and ranchers.
In 1870, the townsite was platted and named Arvada. Mary Ann Wadsworth named the town in honor of Hiram Arvada Haskins, her brother-in-law. In 1871, a post office opened. In 1876, the Clear Creek Valley Grange Hall was built. In 1877, the Arvada Cemetery was established. In 1882, a school was built.
In 1892, the United Methodist Church was built. In 1899, the Russell-Graves House was built. William Graves and George Wendt owned the house, The Covenant Church was built. In 1900, Arvada High School was established. In 1904, the Town of Arvada was incorporated. The First National Bank of Arvada opened.
In 1910, the water tower was built. In 1911, Dr. Richard Russell, the first mayor of Arvada, and his wife took over the Russell-Graves House. In 1915, the Enterprise Grange No. 15 brick building was built. In 1923, the Arvada Flour Mill was built.
In 1925, Wadsworth Boulevard was paved. Olde Town Arvada district was established. In 1941, the town had traffic lights. In 1947, Lloyd J. King opened the supermarket King Soopers.
In 1951, Arvada was incorporated as a city. In 1956, Plaza shopping center opened. In 1972, Arvada Historical Society was founded. In 1976, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities was built. In 1993, Arvada Square opened as a lifestyle shopping center. In 2005, the Cussler Museum opened.
In 2007, Matthew J. Murray opened fire and killed two people and injured two more. Later that same day, he killed two more people in Colorado Springs.
In 2026, there were 121,873 people living in the city.
