El Paso, Texas
El Paso is located in the western part and is the sixth largest city in the U.S. State of Texas. Called the Sun City with approximately 300 sunny days per year. It is known for its handmade Western boots, and for being ranked among the safest large cities in the United States.
The city has a rich border culture, blending American and Mexican influences. It has the largest urban park in the United States, the Franklin Mountains State Park, with breathtaking views, and many activities.

History Of El Paso - Timeline
Before the first European came to the area, archaeological evidence shows that Indigenous people had lived there for around 10,000 years.
In 1535, Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca and his three companions, passed through the El Paso area. In 1540, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado explored areas near present-day El Paso. In 1598, the Spanish conquistador and explorer, Juan de Onate, explored the area.
In 1659, Fray Garcia de San Francisco established the cornerstone for the El Paso-Juárez metropolis by introducing Christianity, farming and livestock to the region.
In 1680, El Paso became the base for Spanish governance of the territory of New Mexico. In 1682, settlements had been founded along the south bank of the Rio Grande—El Paso. In 1789, the presidio of San Elizario was founded to help in the defense of the El Paso settlements against the Apaches.
In 1827, Juan Maria Ponce de Leon received a land grant for the future downtown area. The Ponce de Leon Ranch in El Paso was established. In 1824, Hugh Stephenson arrived and established the Stephenson's ranch, and became a trader and merchant.
In 1841, James Wiley Magoffin built a hacienda and became a major trader in the area. In 1847, James Wiley Magoffin, started to construct his estate in the area. He established the settlement of Magoffinsville (modern El Paso). In 1849, the U.S. military Fort Bliss was established. Simeon Hart established a flour mill and supplied flour to Fort Bliss and the community. His residence served as a haven for travelers and a hub for social and civic gatherings.
In 1850, a bill passed by the United States Congress placed El Paso in the state of Texas. In 1852, a US post office was established. In 1856, Samuel Schutz opened a grocery business. The Concordia Cemetery was established. In 1859, Anson Mills surveyed and layed out a town and named it El Paso.
In 1873, El Paso was incorporated. In 1877, the Presidio Chapel of San Elizario was built. In 1881, the first railroad to reached the city, and horse-drawn streetcars were established. The El Paso Times newspaper was established. In 1882, the Montgomery Building was built. In 1883, the First National Bank was built.
In 1884, the El Paso Browns baseball team was formed. (El Paso Diablos). The Fort Bliss National Cemetery was established. A police force was formally established. In 1895, El Paso Public Library was founded. In 1898, the Zion Lutheran Church was established. The House at 912 Magoffin Avenue was built.
In 1900, the White House Department Store was founded. In 1902, the city had electric streetcars. In 1906, the Union Depot opened. In 1908, the Henry C. Trost House was built. Trost was an architect who shaped El Paso's architectural landscape by designing hundreds of buildings. In 1910, the Abdou Building was built. It was originally built for the Rio Grande Valley Bank. The Richard Caples Building was built. The Toltec Club building was built.
In 1911, Tony Lama Sr. founded his western boot company. That was the start of El Paso to be a global center for western boot making. The Anson Mills Building was built. In 1912, the White House Department Store and Hotel McCoy building was built, and the Hotel Paso del Norte opened. In 1914, the Alhambra Theatre opened. (The Palace Theatre). In 1916, El Paso High School opened. The Old Bnai Zion Synagogue was built. The historic U.S. Post Office building was built.
In 1917, the Martin Building was completed. In 1921, the Ku Klux Klan established a local chapter in the city. The First Mortgage Company Building was built. The State National Bank building was constructed. Gene Roddenberry was born in the city. He created the original Star Trek series.
In 1922, the El Paso Post newspaper was in print. In 1926, the Orndorff Hotel was built. (Hotel Cortez). In 1928, the El Paso Municipal Airport was built. The Singer Sewing Company Building was built. In 1929, the KTSM and WDAH radio began to broadcast. The Plaza Hotel was built. (Hilton Hotel). In 1930, the construction of the O. T. Bassett Tower was completed. The Austin High School opened. The Plaza Theatre was built.
In 1932, the actress and singer Debbie Reynolds was born in the city. (Singin' in the Rain, How the West Was Won). In 1936, the Court House was built. The Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens was established. In 1940, the Star on the Mountain was built. The Grammy-winning vocalist, Vikki Carr, was born in the city. In 1942, the County Coliseum indoor arena opened.
In 1946, a drive-in cinema opened. In 1952, the KROD-TV television began broadcasting. In 1959, the El Paso Museum of Art was founded. The Wyler Aerial Tramway was built. In 1962, the Bassett Place opened. In 1963, the Sun Bowl outdoor football stadium opened. In 1965, the Fox Theatre opened. In 1971, the construction of the Wells Fargo Plaza building was completed.
In 1972, the El Paso Community College was established. In 1974, the Judson F. Williams Convention Center opened. (Civic Center - El Paso Convention Center). The Cielo Vista Mall opened. The Chamizal National Memorial was established. In 1982, Kayser Building was completed. (The Stanton Tower). In 1987, the Franklin Mountains State Park opened. In 1988, the Shoppes at Solana opened.
In 1989, the El Paso Patriots soccer team was formed. In 2005, the El Diario de El Paso, a Spanish-language newspaper, was founded. In 2006, the Railroad and Transportation Museum was established. In 2014, the Southwest University Park, a ballpark, opened.
In 2019, a mass shooting occurred at a Walmart store. The 21-year-old Patrick Wood Crusius, killed 23 people and injured 22 others. He was a white nationalist and against immigration. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole. In 2025, there were 681,873 people living in the city.
