Goodyear, Arizona
Goodyear is located in the south-central part and is the 11th largest city in the U.S. State of Arizona. It is a young city and it is a suburb of Phoenix about 25-30 minutes by car from downtown Phoenix.
The city has a strong connection to the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and is one of the fastest-growing cities in Arizona.

History Of Goodyear - Timeline
Thousands of years before the first white settler came, the land was inhabited by the ancient Hohokam tribe who developed early irrigation and farming systems in the region. In 1450, the Hohokam culture began to decline and various other Indian tribes inhabited or utilized the region
In 1539, the Frensh missionary Fray Marcos de Niza explored the area. In 1700, the Spanish missionary Father Eusebio Kino explored the area.
In 1900, the area was primarily rural desert with sparse agriculture and scattered settlements. In 1916, Paul W. Litchfield, an executive with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was searching for a location to grow long-fiber Egyptian cotton, which was in high demand for tires. He arrived to the area and found what he was looking for.
In 1917, Paul Litchfield purchased land to cultivate cotton for vehicle tire cords. The Goodyear Canal was constructed to provide water for the farming operations. The Goodyear Farms Historic Cemetery was established. The cemetery was first called the Pioneer Cemetery and later changed to Litchfield Cemetery.
In 1918, a general store, a post office, and a school were established. In 1929, the Wigwam Hotel opened. In 1933, a Fire Department was established. In 1941, the Goodyear Aircraft Corporation and Litchfield Naval Air Facility moved employees to the area, and expanded the population.
In 1943, the Luke Field Auxiliary was built as a satellite training airfield. In 1944, the residents and property owners voted to name the community Goodyear. The Goodyear Post Office officially opened.
In 1946, the town incorporated. The town now had a grocery store, a beauty shop, a service station and a barbershop. In 1947, a kindergarten opened and the town appointed its first police chief. In 1948, the Goodyear Fire Department was established.
In 1985, Goodyear was officially incorporated as a City. In 1986, the local airport becomes known as Phoenix Goodyear Airport. In 1988, Estrella, a large master-planned community, began development within Goodyear. In 1990, the Estrella Mountain Community College opened.
In 2003, the Bible Museum opened. In 2009, the Ballpark opened. In 2021, the Goodyear Recreation Campus opened. In 2024, the construction of the Goodyear High School began. In 2026, there were 118,186 people living in the city.
